I was 14 years old and I was taking a class of information when the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake happened. I had never experienced such a big shake before. So when I felt the shake, I couldn't do anything, even hiding under the desk. After the shake, I talked about it with my friends with a laugh, but I didn't laugh in my mind. "What could I do if the earthquake happened in Aichi? " This question occurred to me. Then, I couldn't pay attention to the class because of this question. Preparing emergency food, deciding the place to shelter, installing furniture so as not to fall down and so on, there were many things to do as earthquake countermeasures. I tried to settle down myself.
When I went back home, I forgot what had happened 4 years before. I tried to turn TV on, and then TV reminded me of that because most programs broadcast the earthquake information. At first, I couldn't say anything watching the pictures which things were carried away by a tsunami, cars, a part of the building and so on. Those were carried away as if those things were toys. Also, I couldn't believe the number of the dead person and the missing people. To be frank, because the number of it was very big I couldn't imagine how many people were damaged. I came to understand the cruelty of the earthquake a few days later.
Since the terrible affair, attention to an earthquake has been strengthened. On a television, the programs about an earthquake were broadcast more than twice a week. But I thought it was too many. If media had thought about the earthquake disaster person, they would not have broadcast it so many. They must have wanted to make a money. But some want to forget the earthquake, other want not to do. So the media should consider it!
The earthquake affects for me were also big. There are three things that we were especially affected. First, All Japan Junior High School Championship was called off. This sports event was going to be held in spring. All junior high school students in Japan trained hard to take part in this event. I was one of them. Also, the tournament in spring is the last tournament for club teams of handball because they cannot participate the tournament in summer. I can't imagine how regrettable it was for them. Not only for the club teams but also for junior high school team, it would have become unforgettable occurrences. Second, my friends who had come from foreign countries went back to their countries because their families lived in there worried about their lives. Japan is one of earthquake nations in the world. In addition, this earthquake was so terrible. So, it was natural of their family to worried and make my friends return. I could not meet my friends for a long time, but the time when they came buck and I played with them was wonderful. Third, our school did not let me enjoy festival fully. Our teacher said that it was not good that we enjoy while victims feel sad. But I couldn't agree with this opinion. We didn't have to control our feelings because we prayed for early revival in our minds. Sympathetic feeling was great, I thought, but this was my life and it was not good that we felt sad as victims did.
As above, I was affected by the earthquake. It had me think a lot of things, the importance of our lives, the risk to live in Japan and lack of the preparations for the earthquake. I"ll never forget this terrible occurrence and we should not forget. Recently, it is said that the big earthquake can happen at some points of Japan. So I want to prepare for the earthquake properly without thinking that it is other poeple's affairs.
Thank you for reading.
